Shahr-e Babak is one of the cities of Kerman province known for its copper and turquois mines. It is one the path of Tehran – Bandar Abbas road which makes it an important place. Shahr-e Babak is the eighth biggest city of the province being 240 km. away from Kerman.
It is believed that the city dates back to the Sassanid time when Artaxerxes I became the king and founded the Sassanid Empire. He was the son of Babak, and therefore came to be known as Babakan as well. Having many mines in the area has made the city include several industrial complexes. The city is filled with valuable historic and natural attractions like Mussa Khani Mansion, Meymand Rocky Village, Ayoub Cave, Aabdar Mountain Village, and Rivas plain.
